After a victorious Sudamericano campaign in Ecuador, Uruguay will once again face-off with their peers at the U20 World Cup which this time will take place in Korea. The tournament draw was realized on Wednesday and resulted in an interesting draw for Uruguay.
The side managed by Fabián Coito were drawn in Group D with South Africa, Italy and Japan. A tough group, looking at how Uruguay’s competition did on the way to Korea.
Japan, for example, won the Asian Youth Championships and did so without conceding a single goal. Italy, on the other hand, might not have won the European Youth Championships but their upcoming generation is widely regarded as one of the best across Europe. The third and final country that La Celeste will meet in Korea is South Africa, who qualified after eight years of absence.
Despite the good sides they will face, Uruguay arrive with confidence after dominating the Sudamericano. The tournament will start on the 22nd of May and the final will take place on the 11th of June.
