In Uruguayans on the Road, we pick out three stand-out performances of Uruguayans playing abroad. This weekly series keeps you up-to-date on which Uruguayos are turning heads.

1. Mauricio Lemos

Las Palmas’ Mauricio Lemos has been impressive in 2017 and this weekend saw a continuation of his great form. Lemos, normally a centre-back, played as a holding midfielder vs. Espanyol on Saturday and scored two goals including a fine long-range effort. Another reminder: he is a defender!

2. Nicolás Schiappacasse

For the first time, Nico Schiappacasse was selected for Atlético Madrid’s first team as the side led by Diego Simeone faced Granada away from home in La Liga. Unfortunately, the 18-year-old striker didn’t come in action for Los Rojiblancos, but showed exactly why he came in contention with a match-winning performance (a goal and an assist) for Atléti’s B team the following morning. A debut only seems a matter of time for Schiappacasse.

3. Lucas Torreira

Since matchday one of the 2016/17 season, Lucas Torreira (21) has been one of the biggest revelations in the Serie A. The volante born in Fray Bentos is part of a very talented Sampdoria side and has been linked to the likes of Sevilla and AS Roma amongst others. These links will only get stronger after an authoritative display in the Derby della Lanterna last weekend. Uruguay and Sampdoria have gold in their hands.
